Hope from God's Word

Dear Extraordinary Woman,

Recently, in my church service our pastor challenged us with the following verses on HOPE. I pray they are as encouraging to you as they were to me!

Romans 8:18-25

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Luke 3:4-6 provides something we all can hope in every day. . .

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,

"The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straight, and the rough places shall become level ways, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'"

May God's Word be sufficient for your every need this day!!

A Story of Hope

Happy New Year!!

During the month of January, we are focusing on this year's EW conference theme of HOPE!

Recently, we came across this beautiful devotional written by the Executive Director of Proverbs 31 Ministries. Additionally exciting is the fact that Lysa TerKeurst, founder and President of Proverbs 31 Ministries is among the group of beautiful women who will be speaking at EW events this year!

A brief excerpt is posted here:

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
1 Timothy 6:17 (NIV)

Wealth is something I didn’t think I had.

As a single mom widowed over 13 years ago, I don’t have money for extras like new clothes or weekend trips. Therefore, I didn’t think it was possible for me to give much to others and this made me sad. Until I realized it’s not the size of a gift that matters.

It’s the amount of hope wrapped around the gift that makes all the difference.

I learned about true wealth through a sweet little boy I met during a missions trip to Ecuador with Compassion International.

Miguel lives in a one-room house with his mother and three siblings. They share a bed that lies on a dirt floor. They have no bathroom and no electricity. The vegetables his mother used to prepare their evening meal consisted of peelings and rotting parts that certainly would never have made it into one of my recipes. I would have mindlessly thrown them away.

My eyes filled with tears of sadness as I stared true poverty in the face....

We HOPE this story inspires you today and encourages you to hold out hope in your circle of influence. It may be a hurting neighbor, church member, or woman you meet at the gym. Everyone has a story and is in need of hope today....just look in their eyes and you'll see. You'll be glad you did!

Don't Miss Christmas!

Wow!  We can't believe that 2010 is coming to a close....and we know you feel the same way!  What a great year!  It has been such an incredible honor and blessing to serve you all and we are eagerly hoping to see you back at one of our 11 EW conferences across the US in 2011!!

Earlier this month, the staff at EW and the AACC were challenged by founder, Dr. Tim Clinton with this, "Don't Miss Christmas!"  At first you would think, "How can we miss Christmas?"  Christmas trees for sale, Santas at every party and store,  "Lowest Price of the Year" sales, lights, etc. etc. etc.  Right?!

Well the reality is, Christmas is EASY to miss...if you're not careful!  The joy in a child's eyes...opportunities to give to those less fortunate...freshly fallen snow...singing carols down the halls of the local nursing home or hospital....celebrating the birth of Jesus...these can all be quickly overlooked if we don't stop and take the time to truly see the wonder of this special time of year. 

So as Christmas approaches this week and the New Year shortly thereafter, take a few moments to stop....slow down....and breathe in--CHRISTMAS!  You'll be glad you did!

In Jesus we have the greatest JOY, the sweetest PEACE, the highest HOPE!  May the love of Jesus, the purpose of His life, and the gift of His salvation touch your heart in a special way this Christmas.

Do You Know Who I Am – Angela Thomas

Angela Thomas has been with us at many of our EWomen conferences this year.  Many of you have had chance to hear her message and meet her in person.

I am so excited to tell y’all about this new book  -- Do You Know Who I Am and other brave questions women ask by Angela Thomas.

Angela told me about this project months ago when she was still knee deep in the writing process – and I fell in love with concept.  And this book meets my expectations and then some.  Let me share with y’all a little bit about it.

Angela asks  God if He really knows her,  sees her and loves her right where she is in the midst of her life. In return God asks if we know just WHO He is.  It’s wonderful biblical teaching on the character of God.

Each chapter  mirrors a time in my spiritual life – some more recent than others, but all applicable to me and probably every woman out there walking this life in Jesus.  

I love the opening chapter  -- I Am Afraid to Dream Big … He Is Worthy

Oh girls, how many times do we put God in a box with words such as “I just can’t do that” or “I don’t have that gift" or some other sad excuse to cover up our fear?  We ask God do you know I’m afraid to dream big?  I’m afraid of what may be ahead?”  And God answers us “do you know Who I Am – I Am Worthy.”

Angela takes us into the book of Ephesians for some rich application on what we have received from God --

God has provided you with every spiritual blessing (1:3)

God gives you a glorious inheritance & His incomparable power (1:18-19)

God has prepared good works for you to do (2:10)

And the list goes on and on.  This page is highlighted, tagged and written all over – it’s a great list to keep beside you when you feel a little down or unworthy.

I could talk/ write about every chapter but I’ll just share the titles:

I am Invisible … He is My God Who Sees

I Am Trembling Inside … He is My Comfort

I Am Worn Out … He Does Not Grow Weary

I Am Suffering with a Thorn … He is My Sufficiency

I Am a Sinner … He Is My Savior

I Am Lonely … He is Here

I Am Undisciplined … He Is My Strength

I Am Hesitant … He Is Generous

I Am Ordinary … He is My King and Father

I Am Broken…. He is My Redeemer

I Am Disappointed… He Is My Hope

Angela teaches us the secret to being known by God is understanding who God is – and that He does see us and love us right where we are.  God loves us even when you’re knee-deep in toddlers and the most exciting thing you can accomplish is taking a shower.  God sees you right there. 

God loves us when we are afraid, lonely, frightened, hurt – God sees each one of us and He has a purpose for each one of  us. 

I encourage you to pick up Do You Know Who I Am.  It’s filled with wonderful storytelling, spot on biblical application and heartfelt insight. 

I was given a copy of this book for review, but I would have bought it anyway!!
