Meet Mandy Young - an Ordinary Extraordinay Woman

"My life is not about me. God has a bigger purpose in my life."

It's with this statement I knew that Mandy Young was someone I wanted to know better.

I stumbled across Mandy when her cute face showed up in many of the photos from one of our Extraordinary Women events. She has this amazing smile that just grabs you -- and I wanted to know about this ordinary extraordinary woman. I learned that she was good friends with the wonderful and so precious Candace Cameron Bure. I have to admit I was a bit starstruck -- I just adore Candace and think she is just a sweetheart.

Armed with the knowledge that she is well-loved by the E-Women team and friends with Candace, I set out to get to know her. I quckly learned just how incredibly extraordinary Mandy Young is.

Mandy has lived a life of sickness and pain that would bring most grown men to their knees, but not this extraordinary woman.

Nine times Mandy's parents were told she wouldn't survive the night -- but she's still here. She's suffered through years of life-threatening infections, never knowing why she gets sick. She even lost her leg at the age of nine. But her smile never dimmed.
For two years she had to live in isolation -- and she continued to smile.

This isn't to say that Mandy hasn't had her bad days. I'm sure she has, but her attitude and her heart are just amazing.

Mandy's dream team of doctors, nurses, and all manner of medical specialists diagnosed her with a gene mutation -- don't even ask me to explain it. You have to hear it from Mandy.

Mandy has a heart that is bigger than her gorgeous smile and wisdom that challenges me to a deeper walk with God. As I talked with Mandy she shared her heart with me and something she said made me realize just how extraordinary she is.

" I feel God has given me my disease for a purpose and I might never understand."

What a powerful statement.

Mandy is just beginning to share her story at churches and events. Check out her website for more on her story and where she is speaking. You don't want to miss hearing her story -- she is one amazing, incredibly, adorable, and yes, EXTRAORDINARY women who will challenge you in your walk with God. You can read more about her at www.MandyYoung.com

I know she challenges me!!

Nannette -- A View from the Seats

I asked Nannette if she would be willing to serve as our guinea pig for this new blog feature ‘A View from the Seats,’ and she said “I’d love to.”

This feature is about you, the extraordinary women in the seats. We want to hear about the conference from where you sit. So, if you’re heading to a conference or you’ve been to one this year, just let me know and I would love to feature you and your group.

And now here’s our first extraordinary woman -- Nannette!

I attended my first E Women Conference in 2005. I was so moved and inspired that I went back to my home church and started talking it up to my friends. The next year we sent 18 women to the conference.

The conference always encourages me and I was so excited about going this year. I was even more excited when I got there and was able to get seats in the front. (Ed note: and Nannette got some incredible pictures)

It is hard to give you a moment that was my favorite. Karen Kingsbury is such an inspiration, I love the way she makes you crack up laughing one moment and has you in tears the next.

nannette

Anita Renfoe made me laugh so hard I was crying.

nannette3

I have read many of Stormie Ormartian's books and had no idea about her life struggle.

But of all the speakers I was very moved by Candace Cameron Bure's testimony. I grew up watching her as DJ, and was so excited to see her and meet her. I had no idea what her testimony was, but as she was speaking I was very moved.

nannette4

I was also moved by the people who came forward to recommit their lives to the Lord or tho give their lives to the Lord. The musicians were awesome as well, I loved singing along with all the songs. But the most awesome thing about the Extraordinary Women Conference is being in the same room with people of all different backgrounds, different ages and different circumstances and were all worshiping the Lord.

****

Thank you Nannette-- your words and pictures tell an wonderful story! You, sweet woman, are one more Extraordinary Woman!

Praying for EWomen Roanoke, VA

Today is the DAY! It's Extraordinary Women in Roanoke VA!

Please join me in prayer for all the EWomen team, the volunteers, the artists, the speakers, the staff, the people working the product tables, and for all the EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN who will show up.

Dear Lord, to You be the power and the glory. Lord, I humbly ask that you pour your grace and mercy out over all those involved in the planning and the preparation. Lord, give them a stress-free set up and give each one strength as he/ she prepares to serve the women who will come through the doors.

Lord, be with each speaker and musician. Reinforce the message you have given them for this specific group of women. Lord, rain down on them with hope, joy, peace and a vision for who you want them to become.

Lord, give each one a thirst for You! Lord, give each one a heart to reach out to her sisters in Christ and bring them to hear the messages that will fill the arena tonight and tomorrow.

And we give You all the glory! AMEN!

A message from Candace Cameron Bure

Hey Ladies!!

I'm so excited to get back into the "speaking" groove after my summer break. E Women is one of my favorite conferences and you're all in for a treat. I'll be sharing my testimony, growing up in Hollywood, how my faith fit in and where I'm at today. I may even share a little bit about my husband. :)

I can't wait to meet you and share with you and even more, I'm looking forward to hearing all the other performers and speakers to be encouraged and inspired myself.

I've had a super busy summer, being back on TV on my new show "Make It Or Break It" on ABC Family Channel. We're moving back to Los Angeles (my hometown) since the show got picked up for another season! As exciting as that is, my first priority is my family and where I'll put my kids in school. We've been praying a lot and waiting on the Lord to show us which school will be best for our family. Exciting stuff, but one I don't want to mess up! Can you feel me moms?

I'll see you at E Women!

Meet Melanie -- Volunteer Spotlight!

I met Melanie at the Birmingham event in May -- she was having so much fun and was just a joy to be around. She truly lights up the room!

I asked Melanie to share a little about being a volunteer for E-Women.

How did you hear about volunteering for E-Women?

My church, Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Vestavia Hills, AL, hosted the E-Women event last year, so I knew this was a quality event that would be fun to volunteer at again!

Where did you volunteer?

I was a hostess- I took care of Chonda Pierce.

Oh my, that sounds like fun. What was your favorite part of volunteering?

Seeing behind the scenes, meeting all the people that make an event of this magnitude work was an honor and privilege.

You worked with Chonda, who's a joy! Any funny stories, touching moments you wish to share?

Chonda is a MESS! She kept me laughing and on my toes. Her battle with depression touched the hearts of so many; ladies from all around the country came up to her in her 'signing line' to tell her how much they related to her struggles. Chonda is giving hope to many Christian women- through honest truth and laughter!

What was your favorite part of the conference?
My favorite part of the conference is the high-energy Praise and Worship. No matter who's leading in song, audiences are led to the Throne!
How will you take what you learned at this conference and use it in your life?

Each E-Women's conference reminds me that God uses EVERY struggle to help you relate to others that need Him.

What would tell someone who's interested in becoming a volunteer? Any hints, tips or advice?
Get on board. Not only do you get a free ticket inside the scenes of E-Women, but you get to meet great men and women who serve the Lord with their entire lives. Advice to future volunteers: come with a servants-heart, flexible and willing to serve wherever you're needed. There's no greater volunteer than those who will roll up their sleeves and get messy!

I would love to volunteer in the future! This conference always reaches the needs of so many women and it's worth every minute!

You can find Melanie at www.meldill.blogspot.com -- she has a great blog with lots of ministry related ideas! Check it out!

You can add my blog if you'd like: www.meldill.blogspot.com
I update it very regularly and have lots of ministry-related-ideas each week.

If you want more information about volunteering check out E-Women Volunteering
